€1 Billion ‘Core’ Project to Transform Drogheda into a Net-Zero Innovation Hub

A landmark€1 billion investment has been approved for Drogheda, marking a major milestone for County Louth and the M1 Corridor. The “Core” project, a sustainably powered enterprise campus, will be developed on the former Premier Periclase site beside Drogheda Port. This transformative initiative is set to position Drogheda as national leader in clean energy, advanced manufacturing, and high-tech industry.

Led by Premier Periclase in partnership with Irish energy-tech firm Gyrogy and global infrastructure investor Meridiam, the Core campus will be a model for net-zero industrial development. The first phase will create 50 jobs, with the potential for hundreds more as the site grows to accommodate sectors such as biopharma, food and beverage, and sustainable manufacturing.

The project will feature:

·       On-site renewable energy generation

·       Advanced battery storage and flexible gas engines

·       A 32MW data centre

·       Real-time energy management for the national grid

This development is not just about infrastructure – it’s about reimagining how large energy users operate in Ireland. By integrating clean energy systems directly into the site, Core will help decarbonise industrial activity while generating surplus power to the grid during peak demand.

The project also represents a powerful example of how County Louth is leading the way in sustainable economic development. Once one of Ireland’s largest sources of industrial emissions, the site will now become an model for climate innovation and green enterprise.

As the M1Corridor continues to attract forward-thinking investment, the Core project highlights Drogheda’s position as a strategic hub for the green economy, cross-border collaboration, and future job creation.
