Dundalk and Drogheda have been formally designated under the Government’s Living City Initiative, marking an important step forward for town‑centre regeneration along the M1 Corridor.
The designation applies to defined Special Regeneration Areas within both towns, allowing property owners to access tax reliefs to refurbish and repurpose vacant or underused buildings. The initiative supports residential use, commercial activity and new opportunities for “living over the shop”, helping to increase housing supply while strengthening the vitality of town centres.
For the M1 Corridor, this move reinforces the role of Dundalk and Drogheda as key economic hubs — well connected, rich in heritage building stock, and well placed to support sustainable growth, local enterprise and vibrant, lived‑in urban centres.
